In 2021, I added another retirement hobby: volunteering to provide interesting and fun song memory entertainment programs. Inspired by my Dad's long time commitment as a volunteer entertainer at senior residences in his home community, I began doing similarly in the greater Portland/SW Washington area. I play a wide variety of "crowd favorite" songs from the 1800's through the folk songs of the 1960's - along with some current songs - giving a brief, engaging anecdotal story about the songs - and encouraging participation. Throughout my life I've led singing in schools and churches, and father/daughter/son programs (YMCA sponsored) - I enjoy, as my Dad did, bringing the happiness of exploring music memories through the hearing and singing familiar songs.
Often accompanied by my better half - a retired kindergarten teacher - and using a foot-operated percussion tool known as a "stomp box" and sometimes a tuba, we bring a unique energy, sound, and engagement to all the programs (sample youtube videos linked below). We've led song memory programs at many Portland area senior residences, and always welcome opportunities to expand to others. We are happy to provide references and we are fully vaccinated. We are also happy to provide any information needed for a background checks. We also fully support masking and are happy to do so when arriving and departing. I retired from a career in Federal law enforcement and have a current Alzheimer's Association EssentiALZ certification. |
